The members of Citrus Heights American Legion Post 637 are starting a new tradition with a public remembrance ceremony to honor the fallen in the terrorist attacks that took place on September 11, 2001.
The ceremony will begin at 8:45 a.m. in the gazebo at Sylvan Cemetery on 7401 Auburn Blvd. The Post suggests those planning to attend arrive between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. At 8:45 a.m. the bells in the bell tower will ring and a moment of silence will be observed, followed by the playing of taps.
“We will pause to remember the attack on the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the attack on the Pentagon and the heroism of the passengers of United Flight 93,” said Legion spokesman Jim Monteton.
“This date cannot be forgotten,” Monteton said. “It will only be about 30 minutes out of your life. The 2,996 people that died that day will never have another minute.”
