A 24-year-old vandalism suspect was arrested by Citrus Heights police Monday morning after allegedly leading officers on a 100-mile-an-hour chase and attempting to ram several police vehicles.
The suspect, Jared Moody of Citrus Heights, was arrested on several felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, and evading police while driving on the wrong side of the road and “with disregard for public safety,” police said in a news release Monday afternoon.
Sgt. Jason Baldwin said the incident began around 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 30, when Moody “drove onto the front lawn” of a residence on the 7400 block of Kadota Way in Citrus Heights and began vandalizing the property. As a responding officer approached the scene, Moody then fled in his vehicle and failed to pull over when officers attempted a traffic stop.
Police said officers then briefly pursued after Moody, but called off the pursuit when the 24-year-old allegedly “turned off his headlights [and] ran several red lights at an excess of 100mph in an effort to evade the pursuing officers.”
Moody then circled back at the officers and “attempted to ram a police vehicle head on with his vehicle,” police said in the news release. The officer avoided the collision and police again initiated a pursuit, but that was called off as well.
Police said Moody then allegedly circled back again and tried to ram another occupied police vehicle, but was unsuccessful. Officers then pursued Moody’s vehicle until he was stopped at the end of a cul-de-sac, where police said he was arrested without further incident.
