Local events and activities happening around town this month include the annual Red, White & Blue Parade, Relay for Life at San Juan High School, and a free showing of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Here’s some highlights of what’s happening in June:
Library Book Sale, June 4 – Friends of Sylvan Oaks Library will be holding a book sale, promising “plenty of bargains” on gently-used books, movies, music, puzzles and more. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the library, located at the corner of Auburn Boulevard and Van Maren Lane. (link)
Star Wars showing, June 7 – Sylvan Oaks Library is inviting the community for its monthly movie night on the first Tuesday of the month, with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on schedule for June. The 136-minute PG-13 movie showing will begin at 5:30 p.m. (Link)
Election Day, June 7. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Find your polling place: https://pollingplacelookupen.saccounty.net/
Food Truck Mania, June 8 – On the second Wednesday of each month, from April through September, a wide variety of food trucks will set up for “Food Truck Mania” at Rusch Park from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is also scheduled to feature music and vendors. (Flier)
Relay for Life, June 11 – The American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life will be held from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at San Juan High School. (Link)
Water District board meeting, June 14. The Citrus Heights Water District’s Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the district office, located at 6230 Sylvan Rd. (Agenda)
Summer Safari, June 17 — A free kids camp will be held at the Citrus Town Center from 10:30 a.m to noon. The event will be followed by free mini-train rides from noon until 2 p.m. The center is located at 7925 Greenback Ln.
Hazardous Waste Drop-off, June 18 — Republic Services will host a free Household Hazardous Waste drop-off behind the Sunrise Mall from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents are invited to safely dispose of items like household chemicals, cleaners and acids, automotive fluids, paints, and more (Link). A vermiculture composting workshop will also be held by Republic Services the same day at 9:30 a.m. at the Farmer’s Market, with a traditional composting workshop scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
Neighborhood Meeting, June 21 — In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Citrus Heights Police Department, Police Chief Christopher Boyd is scheduled to speak at the monthly meeting of the Northwest Neighborhood Association. The meeting is set to begin at 7 p.m. at 7600 Daly Ave. It is open to the public. (Flier)
LEGO Mania, June 23 — From 3:30 to 5 p.m., Sylvan Oaks Library invites kids to “build to your heart’s content at the library.” Plenty of LEGO bricks are promised for everyone.(Link)

Blood Drive, June 24-26 — A BloodSource blood drive at Sunrise Mall will offer donors a free ticket to the California State Fair or a “limited edition BloodSource/BCP SF Giants T-shirt.” Donation times will be noon to 6 p.m. on June 24, noon to 5 p.m. on June 25, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 26. The donation area is typically in the Sunrise Mall parking lot, near Elephant Bar.
Pickleball event, June 25 — Rusch Park will host a grand opening for its newly remodeled Pickleball courts from 9 to 11 a.m. Organizers say the event will include an information clinic, skills clinic, local vendors, and a meet and greet with the Sunrise Pickleball Club. Local food trucks are also scheduled to be on scene to provide food and refreshments. (Flier)
Red, White & Blue parade, June 25 — The sidewalks along Sunrise Boulevard will once again be lined with parade-watchers for the city’s 2016 Red, White & Blue Parade. The parade is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and will travel along Sunrise Boulevard, starting just north of Madison Avenue and ending near Greenback Lane at the Sunrise Mall. (Full story)
