Driver arrested for felony DUI after multi-injury collision
A five-vehicle collision at the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Twin Oaks Avenue sent several people to the hospital and resulted in the arrest of a driver on felony DUI charges. Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Jason Baldwin said officers were called to the scene around 11:25 p.m. on April 2, where one of the involved parties ran away from officers. Baldwin said the man was quickly caught and arrested after police “developed probable cause” to believe he had been driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was also on DUI probation.
Citrus Heights Kmart to close April 10
The Auburn Boulevard Kmart will shut its doors for the final time on April 10, as one of four Kmart stores in California announced for closure earlier this year. The store has been running liquidation sales since Jan. 24, with nearly half the store appearing to be empty by mid-March. A company spokesman said the closures were part of actions taken “to reduce ongoing expenses, adjust our asset base and accelerate the transformation of our business model,” according to a Sacramento Bee story from January.
Police chase through Citrus Heights ends in one arrest
A multi-agency pursuit of a stolen vehicle Monday night ended with the driver’s arrest near Woodside K-8 school in Citrus Heights. Loud sirens and a police helicopter could be heard by residents as the April 4 pursuit traveled along Greenback Lane and Old Auburn Road shortly after 10 p.m. Citrus Heights Police Lt. Michael Wells confirmed the pursuit originated in Folsom, entered Citrus Heights, and concluded at a dead-end on Wintergreen Drive, off Old Auburn Road. He said the vehicle’s two occupants attempted to flee on foot, but officers from Folsom and Citrus Heights police departments, as well as Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies, set up a perimeter and “quickly located” and arrested the female driver. He said a male passenger was not able to be located, but police “were able to positively identify who he was” and cancelled the perimeter search shortly afterward.
