Upcoming events around Citrus Heights this week include a charity wiffle ball tournament, pet costume contest, several City and community meetings, a high school football game, and more.
TUESDAY, Sept. 22–
Community Leadership Conference. Designed to help “empower emerging nonprofit leaders to build their organizations, increase revenue, grow membership and create sustainable partnerships through volunteerism,” the event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Citrus Heights Community Center on Fountain Square Drive. Teen Writers Workshop. The free workshop will be held at Sylvan Oaks Library and is designed to help those aged 13-19 discover different writing styles and formats, with the assistance of a community college instructor. The workshops are held each Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sept. 8 through Nov. 24. The library is located at the corner of Auburn Boulevard and Van Maren Lane. (Registration link)
WEDNESDAY, Sept. 23–
Planning Commission meeting. This meeting has been cancelled, according to City Clerk Amy Van.
THURSDAY, Sept. 24–
City Council meeting. In what will likely be a short meeting, the only action items on the agenda are approval of the prior meeting’s minutes and a resolution to receive about $20,000 in state grant funds for police. (See agenda)
FRIDAY, Sept. 25–
Community Meeting with County Supervisor. Sup. Roberta MacGlashan’s “community cabinet” meeting will be this Friday at 7:30 a.m. at the Denny’s restaurant on Sunrise Boulevard near Greenback Lane. The supervisor’s monthly meetings are held on the fourth Friday of most months and typically feature a guest speaker and a county government update from MacGlashan.
High school football game. San Juan Spartans will face off the Golden Sierra Grizzlies in a home game, beginning at 7 p.m. (See 2015 game schedule)
SATURDAY, Sept. 26–
Pets on Parade. The Citrus Heights PetSmart will host its annual Pets on Parade costume contest from noon ’til 2 p.m. on Saturday, with registration beginning at 11:45 a.m. (Event details)
Wiffle Ball Tournament: A wiffle ball fundraiser to support those with Multiple Sclerosis will be held in Citrus Heights on Sept. 26. According to the event’s Facebook page, the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. at 6939 Larkspur Ave., on two private wiffle ball fields behind the organizer’s home. (Event info)
Kids ‘Build and Grow’ at Lowe’s: The Citrus Heights Lowe’s is inviting parents to bring their kids to a free event on Saturday where they’ll help build a fire truck and learn about safety. The activity will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and is recommended for kids over age 5. (Registration link)
SUNDAY, Sept. 27–
Sunday Funday: From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Rusch Park will again feature the City-sponsored annual Sunday Funday event, promising live music and entertainment, children’s games, climbing walls and more. (Event flier)
