Inviting the community out to the corner of Greenback Lane and Sunrise Boulevard for a night of fun, freebies and film, the Citrus Town Center will be kicking off its annual outdoor movie season with a showing of “Big Hero 6” on an inflatable big screen projector.
“Bring the whole family down all summer long for our fun and free summer movie series,” the town center says on its Facebook page, announcing 2015 outdoor showings on May 9, June 13, July 11 and August 8 this year.
Organizers say the PG-rated animated film will begin at dark, and attendees can enjoy some pre-movie music and entertainment — along with free popcorn and raffle entry for some town center merchant prizes. A framed Polaroid picture with the event and date is also promised as a free gift for those who show up early.
As seating is on cement, attendees are asked to bring their own chairs rather than blankets, and organizers ask for large coolers, glass containers, and alcohol to stay home. Strollers are allowed and handicap seating is available, according to the town center.
The outdoor movie series is one of many activities the Citrus Town Center sponsors throughout the year, as part of its goal to foster a “community feel” for the neighborhood shopping center. In 2012, the former “Sunrise Festival Shopping Center” finalized its nearly $4 million remodel, featuring new landscaping, store frontages, outdoor seating areas, and a prominently displayed new name at the corner of Greenback Lane and Sunrise Avenue.
Other film showings at the town center this year include Paddington, Strange Magic, and The Box Trolls, according to the center’s Facebook page.
