A retail store at Sunrise Mall has reopened after the business twice closed due to leaks from roof-related issues, sources say.
During recent visits by The Sentinel, the Zumiez store was observed to have been closed on Oct. 24 following heavy rains, as well as being closed during a Nov. 13 visit.
In a phone call this week, an employee at Zumiez who could not be identified because they were not authorized to speak to the media said the most recent closure lasted about a week and confirmed the store is now open for business. The location has closed twice since late October when rain water from a storm caused damage to some of the merchandise inside, the employee said.
An email response to The Sentinel from Mason Asset Management on Tuesday said the leakage issue has been resolved.
“Recently, Sunrise Mall experienced large amounts of water on the roof after a storm. The problem, however, did not stem from the roof itself but rather from a clogged roof drain & a HVAC curb which was not sealed above a tenants space. All related issues have been successfully resolved,” the statement said in its entirety.
In a prior story on Oct. 26, The Sentinel reported Zumiez and neighboring store Hallmark were closed after a storm passed through the area just days prior. Hallmark has also since reopened.
In a statement following that storm, a representative for Mason Asset Management, the firm partnered with the mall’s majority owner Namdar Realty Group, said the leak had been repaired by Oct. 27 or earlier.
“We are pleased to report that the leak has been effectively resolved, and we have determined that no roof repair is necessary, as it sustained no damage from the most recent storm,” the statement said. It is unclear whether the second closure of Zumiez was related to the initial leak.
