Sentinel staff report–
An upcoming blood drive in Citrus Heights will be held on Van Maren Lane this Thursday, as the nation faces an emergency blood shortage.

The blood drive, operated by Vitalant, will be held on Dec. 2 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 7009 Van Maren Lane. As of Friday, 15-minute appointment times for the upcoming blood drive were mostly still unfilled between 2:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

News reports last week said the nation is facing a decade-low blood supply for this time of year, due to low donor turnout during the pandemic.

According to Vitalant’s website, all blood drives follow CDC guidelines and donors will be required to wear masks. The organization also says sanitation practices are in place, with wipe-downs of all high-touch areas required after each collection.

Appointments to donate blood can be scheduled online at donors.vitalant.org.
