The Sunrise Recreation and Park District is offering a variety of activities this summer, with a new online guide highlighting activities like a “Bowl and Swim” camp, martial arts, pickleball, dancing and more.
The interactive online publication details classes and activities for all ages, with activity dates from May-September. COVID-19 modifications or restrictions will vary with each activity and all current health guidelines will be followed, the district says.
Day Care and Preschool: Children aged 3-5 have the ability to enroll in preschool programs provided by Sunrise Kids Club, where they will enjoy arts a crafts, academics, free play at the park, and more. The district requires proof of birth date and immunization records for enrollment. Sessions are monthly, and tuition is calculated from August to May.
Martial Arts: Multiple martial arts programs are available. Tai Chi and Qi Gong is available to anyone 16 or older for $59. Adult self defense and fitness is also available, for those looking to improve strength, balance, and endurance.
Pickleball Club: All ages are invited to enjoy pickleball at Rusch Park. Happening Sunday-Friday, the Sunrise Pickleball Club provides a fun activity that aims to enhance your pickleball experience through competitive, social, and educational events.
Dancing: Line dancing is available for residents 15 years and older who want a low-impact way to stay fit and meet new people. Beginners are always welcome, and no partner is needed. Instructors use a variety of music styles and teach the basics so beginners can progress. Classes are Friday from 12:30-2:30, and a 4-class punch card is $35 dollars.
Bowling. Through a partnership with Steve Cook’s Fireside Lanes bowling alley, the parks district is offering a “Bowl and Swim Camp.” The first camp is already full, but a second camp still has six spots available as of May 28. The price is $155.
Youth Sports: The park district is offering many different youth sports’ camps, including tennis, basketball, and flag football. Age and price ranges vary on the program.
Aquatics: Many aquatic programs are available for residents wanting to get in the water. Red Cross lifeguard training will be available for anyone 16 and over for $240, while adults over 18 can get their feet wet with lifeguard instructor training for $275. Sunrise Sharks will be prowling the waters of Rusch Pool once again in 2021. Preschool swim lessons are also available.
Sunrise Parks also offers activities at parks outside the city limits, including a “STEM + Jedi w/ LEGO” class, and an “Animation with Scratch” class. Additional activities and events — including ceramics, summer day camp, and kayaking— are also planned at various parks in the district.
