Coroner identifies pedestrian killed at Auburn/Greenback as 81-year-old woman

A pedestrian who was fatally struck by a truck in Citrus Heights last Wednesday has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 81-year-old Teresa Lewis.

According to an obituary published in The Sacramento Bee on Saturday, Lewis had been a microbiologist for 30 years and had recently moved to Carmichael to live with one of her sisters. A service will be held for Lewis at Chapel of the Hills in Auburn, at 11 a.m. on April 13.

“She was a wonderful sister, who had a smile for everyone she met, and loved the Lord,” family said in her obituary. Lewis leaves behind two sisters, Sharon Finch and Gwen Gosser, as well as two brothers, Jesse and Kenneth Lewis.

According to police, an initial investigation found that Lewis had been crossing the street in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Auburn Boulevard and Greenback Lane on March 28 when she was fatally struck by a lifted GMC pickup truck, around 4:30 p.m. First-responders performed life-saving efforts upon arrival, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

As of Friday, Lt. Dave Gutierrez said the investigation is still ongoing and said there were no further updates on the primary collision factor, other than what police previously released several hours after the collision.

In a March 28 news release, police said the driver of the truck involved had remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation. The department also said neither speed, alcohol or drugs appeared to be a factor in the collision, but said Lewis was believed to be crossing the intersection during a “no walk” cycle.
