All-you-can-eat sushi restaurant to replace old La Placita Dos on Greenback

A 5,000-square-feet building on Greenback Lane, once home to a popular Mexican restaurant in Citrus Heights, is undergoing an extensive remodel by new owners to allow for a new flavor of food to be offered under the new name — Flaming Mountain.

As an “Asian fusion” restaurant, the new restaurant will offer a mix of sushi and barbecue, according to Yvone Wan, a spokeswoman for Flaming Mountain. She said the restaurant will be “completely different” from the previous layout, with large sushi and alcohol bars inside, along with an ample-sized party room for birthday events and meetings.

When open, Wan said diners will be able to choose from all-you-can eat options or select individual items a la carte. She estimated an opening date within two to three months.

Wan said high traffic on Greenback Lane and a large parking lot were appealing factors in choosing the location for opening up Flaming Mountain. She said the restaurant’s name comes from a famous Chinese drama called Monkey King, which involves a trek to Flaming Mountain and is related to the restaurant’s “flaming” barbecue.

The restaurant is a family business venture, with Wan’s husband serving as the restaurant’s manager and her mother and father-in-law listed as the owners.

The location, at 8036 Greenback Lane, was originally La Placita Dos until the restaurant abruptly closed in March 2016. Property records indicate the location was then sold for $600,000 to the new owners, with remodel work beginning at the end of last year.
