A large yard sale benefiting the Citrus Heights Community Marching Band will be held on April 28-30 this year, with organizers annually promising a large selection of items at bargain prices.
The all-volunteer marching band announced its 2017 yard sale fundraiser on its Facebook page this month, advertising the event will feature everything from furniture to kitchen appliances, and more. The fundraiser was also announced by councilwoman Jeannie Bruins during the city council’s April 27 meeting.
“It’s a great way to support our community marching band and pick up some priceless treasures that you can’t live without,” said Bruins, noting that the band receives a large part of its funding each year from the event.
The yard sale will be held at 7620 Linden Ave., in Citrus Heights, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Proceeds from the sale go directly to support the band, helping provide for items like uniforms, instruments and liability insurance, according to Band Director Kathy Cook.
The spring yard sale is one of four general fundraisers the band organizes each year to help keep the band program free. Yard sales are typically held during the first two weekends in May, and again around Labor Day weekend each year. A spaghetti feed fundraiser is also held each March, and a ‘Howl-o-ween’ event is held in October.
The band has become known for its performances at community events around the region, annually playing at the Citrus Heights Tree Lighting ceremony and organizing a flash-mob at Walmart each December.
