A new southwest fast-casual restaurant will open on Thursday in the new Capital Nursery Plaza at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue in Citrus Heights, according to a company director.

Moe’s Southwest Grill restaurants feature Subway-style meal creation, with orders custom made at a counter in front of the patron. Meal selections range from quesadilla’s to tacos and salads, with grass-fed steak and organic tofu options advertised on the menu. Free chips and salsa come with every order as well.

The restaurant chain boasts more than 600 Moe’s locations nationwide and is known for greeting guests with a distinctive “Welcome to Moe’s!” shouted from an employee, as soon as each customer walks through the door.

Earlier this year, Moe’s spokeswoman Daley Michael told The Sentinel the new 3,000-square-foot restaurant in Citrus Heights is part of an 18-unit deal signed by a franchise group, HKMII, that is developing restaurants in Sacramento and Santa Cruz. The group also recently opened a new Moe’s at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Cirby Way in January of this year.

The Georgia-based restaurant chain was founded in 2000, but only recently entered California. The first franchise in the state opened in Auburn, with Roseville welcoming the second Moe’s in California.

According to Ben Cole, director of operations for Moe’s Sacramento, the new Citrus Heights restaurant will be open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. He said at least 20 employees have been hired already to staff the new restaurant, with hiring still ongoing.
