A 35-year-old man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Citrus Heights on Thursday has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
The May 19 shooting involved Jaime Ide, of Citrus Heights, who was killed in a six-hour standoff with officers that ended when he threatened an officer with a knife, according to police.
In a news release issued by the Citrus Heights Police Department on Friday, police said officers responded to a “domestic disturbance” report at an apartment complex on the 6000 block of Birdcage Street around 4 p.m. Officers found a “bloodied and injured female,” who was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Police said officers attempted to contact Ide, but he “retreated and barricaded himself inside his residence.” Crisis Negotiators with CHPD also “attempted to resolve the matter peacefully” for over four hours.
Shortly after 8 p.m., gunshots were reportedly heard inside the apartment Ide was in and nearby apartments and businesses were evacuated. Detectives were also able to obtain a warrant and a SWAT team was called in, police said.
The standoff concluded around 10:10 p.m., after police said Ide exited his apartment “without warning” and was shot when he threatened an officer with a knife in a narrow corridor. Ide was pronounced deceased at the scene.
In a story published online by The Sacramento Bee on Saturday, Lt. David Gutierrez said he was not able to offer additional information about Ide’s history, or why he may have attacked the woman involved in the incident. He said the unidentified woman is expected to “be fine.”
An officer-involved shooting investigation of the incident is currently underway. As a standard practice for officer-involved shootings, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office is also expected to independently review the incident and publish its findings online — a process often taking a year.

Another officer-involved shooting occurred in Citrus Heights last June at an apartment complex on the 7500 block of Greenback Lane. In that incident, 35-year-old Eduardo Reyes was shot and killed after police said he fired on officers who were also responding to a domestic violence report.
