A head-on collision on Sylvan Road left one man trapped inside a vehicle and sent five people to the hospital Thursday evening, according to Metro Fire.
Battalion Chief Chris Reed said the collision occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Sylvan Road at Circuit Drive, resulting in minor-to-moderate injuries to five people involved, one of whom required extraction.
He said it did not appear that alcohol was a factor, but could not confirm the cause of the collision. Due to the number of injured persons, he said victims were sent to several different hospitals in order to not overload emergency rooms.
By 7:15 p.m., most emergency personnel had left the scene, but the two vehicles involved in the collision were still in the middle of the road, blocking both northbound lanes of Sylvan. Police said all lanes would be re-opened following the arrival of tow trucks, one of which came to the scene around 7:30 p.m.
