In the past month, Gov. Jerry Brown’s Office has announced the appointment of two women from Citrus Heights, among a series of about 50 appointees to various state positions since March 29.
Citrus Heights resident Leanne M. Wheeler, 47, was appointed to serve on the California Interagency Coordinating Council on Early Intervention. According to a statement from the Governor’s Office, Wheeler has a Master of Arts degree in education administration from Chapman University and worked with the San Juan Unified School District’s Education for Homeless Children and Youths program from 1999 to 2001.
Wheeler was also an elementary school teacher for six years, and most recently served as an education programs consultant at the Department of Education. The Governor’s Office listed Wheeler’s registered political affiliation as “without party preference.”
On March 29, 2016, Gov. Brown announced the appointment of 37-year-old Brandy Rose Buenafe, of Citrus Heights, to the California Library Services Board. According to a statement from the Governor’s office about the appointments, Buenafe has served as a librarian in several state prisons and holds a Master of Library Science degree from California State University, San Jose. The Governor’s Office listed Buenafe’s registered political affiliation as Democrat.
Neither of the women’s appointments required Senate confirmation and neither position offers compensation.
