Citrus Heights police team completes 120-mile ‘Baker to Vegas’ race

A team of Citrus Heights police officers joined with Folsom police last weekend to compete in a 120-mile endurance competition from Baker, California to Las Vegas, Nevada.

The annual “Baker to Vegas” law enforcement relay run featured over 8,000 runners from around the world, with the Citrus Heights-Folsom team placing 16th out of 32 in its division, according to Sgt. Jason Baldwin. Out of 280 total teams, he said the local team finished 129th and is bringing home trophy mugs from the competition for the first time this year.

Baldwin said the Citrus Heights-Folsom PD team kicked off the run at 11 a.m. on March 19, and finished 17 hours and 44 minutes later at 4:44 a.m. According to official results posted online, the Belize National Police team won first in CHPD’s division, coming in at 14 hours and 23 minutes. Slowest teams took more than 20 hours to complete the race.

“At the end of the day our officers accomplished a great deal,” said Sgt. Baldwin, adding that the competitors trained all year for the event. “[They] made great memories, witnessed amazing feats of athleticism, and individuals pushed themselves to their very limits physically.”

Baldwin said the B2V race is also an effort for the department to raise funds for the nonprofit Citrus Heights Police Activities League, which hosts youth-focused events and activities throughout the year. He said the B2V team was able to raise $7,000 for the League.
