Local events going on in town this week include a craft fair, public hearings on red light cameras and marijuana cultivation, and a seasonal event with free carriage rides at the Citrus Town Center.
MONDAY, Dec. 7 —
CHPD fundraiser. A two-day fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse seeks to raise funds to send a team of Citrus Heights police officers to the annual 2016 Baker to Vegas competition — a 120-mile foot race through the desert on March 19 to 20. To raise funds for the cause, Texas Roadhouse will donate 10 percent of food purchases made by those presenting an invitation flier on Dec. 7 and 8 between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. The Roadhouse restaurant is located at 6309 Sunrise Blvd. (Invite flier)
TUESDAY, Dec. 8 —
Water District board meeting. Citrus Heights Water District board members will hold their monthly meeting this Tuesday, with agenda items including a proposed cost-of-living adjustment for directors, several policy amendments and reports, and the selection of a board president and vice president. The 6:30 p.m. meeting will take place in the District’s recently renovated and expanded offices at 6230 Sylvan Rd. (See full agenda)
Christmas concert. Contemporary Christian musician Josh Wilson will be performing at Bayside Church of Citrus Heights Tuesday night for a Christmas-themed concert. The event begins at 7 p.m. at 6540 Sylvan Rd. *Note: As of noon on Tuesday, tickets for the event have sold out. (Ticket link)
WEDNESDAY, Dec. 9 —
New stoplight. The new signalized intersection at Antelope Road and Amsterdam Avenue is scheduled to go live for the first time this Wednesday, although a City spokesperson said weather could cause plans to be postponed another day.
Planning commission meeting. Two public hearings will be held at this week’s planning commission meeting, as commissioners consider a zoning code amendment addressing marijuana cultivation and a request by Phat Chad’s Tavern to move to a larger space near K-Mart on Auburn Boulevard. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Citrus Heights Community Center. (See full agenda packet)
THURSDAY, Dec. 10 —
City council meeting. The final council meeting for 2015 is set to commence with a 5 p.m. study session related to waste collection and recycling, followed by the council’s regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Council members are set to take action on a number of items, including voting in a new mayor and vice mayor from among their ranks, who will each serve a one-year term in 2016. The council will also hold public hearings on a new Bikeway Master Plan and a proposed contract extension for the City’s red light camera system. Several presentations are also on schedule, including recognition for Walmart employees who recently aided an injured pedestrian, and a presentation by the Residents’ Empowerment Association of Citrus Heights on their accomplishments. The council currently meets in the Citrus Heights Community Center, pending expected completion of the new city hall next year. (See agenda packet)

SATURDAY, Dec. 12 —
Holiday event. The Citrus Town Center will be hosting a “Holiday Open House” featuring free horse-drawn carriage rides, pictures with costume characters, carolers, face painting, and other activities. The event will be on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Center’s shopping plaza at the corner of Greenback Lane and Sunrise Boulevard. (Event page)
Craft Fair. A Saturday craft fair fundraiser to benefit the Citrus Heights-based Lilliput Children’s Services has been organized by 1st Choice Realty & Associates. The event is scheduled to include free pictures with Santa, and those bringing an unwrapped toy will receive a free hot dog from an on-site “retro hot dog cart,” according to an organizer. The craft fair will be held from 10 am. to 3 p.m. at Lilliput’s 8391 Auburn Blvd. location.
