Although not much is on schedule for earlier in the week, events around Citrus Heights include a police K-9 demonstration, a weekend blood drive at the Sunrise Mall, and a local fundraiser with “the world’s funniest cop.”
WEDNESDAY, Aug. 19:
Police K-9 Unit Demo: Citrus Heights police will be bringing along their furriest partners for a demonstration and discussion at the monthly meeting of the Birdcage Heights Neighborhood Association. Police will share how police dogs are trained and how they excel in apprehending criminals and narcotics detection. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. inside Skycrest Elementary and is open to the public. THE WEEKEND, Aug. 21-23:
BloodSource Blood Drive: Bloodmobile donation buses will be out at Sunrise Mall again this weekend offering a free BloodSource t-shirt to those who give an hour of their time to give blood. The blood drive will be on Friday from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The donation area will be located in the Sunrise Mall parking lot, near Elephant Bar.
SATURDAY:
Veterans Picnic and Free Resource Fair: The 6th annual event in honor of veterans will be held at Rusch Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring a free BBQ and thank you raffle prizes for veterans and their families. The event is hosted by the Citrus Heights Women’s Club and the American Legion Post #637.
Comedy & Cops: An evening of beer, BBQ, music and comedy has been planned by the local anti-violence nonprofit “A Community For Peace,” in conjunction with the Citrus Heights Police Department. The event will feature “the world’s funniest cop” comedian Michael Mancini, and will take place in the Citrus Heights Lowe’s parking lot at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Ticket price is $40. (Learn more)
